Career Summary

In 1983 he was promoted from third grade club rugby in Auckland to play for the province against an invitation side. Within a year he had won his first New Zealand cap against France in Christchurch. In 1986 he played for a World team as part of the IRB centenary matches at Cardiff Arms Park and Twickenham. Established a reputation as a prolific try scorer, breaking the New Zealand record with a total of 35. Against Wales in 1988 he scored six tries in the two tests, including four in the first international in Christchurch. A member of the 1987 World Cup winning team. By the end of his playing career he had represented the All Blacks 96 times.

Greatest Moment

Scored a memorable try in the opening match of the 1987 World Cup, zig-zagging 90 metres against Italy at Eden Park in Auckland.

Interesting Facts

Scored international tries against 11 different countries, including eight each against Wales and Argentina.
